[UPDATED May 2021] College-bound high school seniors have a big transition ahead of them. In addition to choosing their college, they’ll need to keep track of financial aid deadlines, make housing plans, and schedule orientation. We compiled the top five ways high school seniors can stay on track through the end of high school and into the summer to have a stellar freshman year.

Share this video on tips for high school seniors with your class!

The tips we share include:

  1.  Stay connected. Check email, mail (yes, like actual mail with stamps), and any online portals that update your admissions status.
  2. Review financial aid. Schools are sending financial aid offer letters. Review them with your family and ask questions. If you haven’t received a letter, check your college portal for missing items.
  3. Make decisions. Commit to your college by May 1. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some schools have extended their deadline to June 1. Check with them for YOUR deadline.
  4. Make housing plans. Housing fills up fast and usually requires a deposit. Investigate your options as soon as possible.
  5. Schedule freshman orientation. Here you’ll learn about your first year in college. Keep checking the colleges’ websites for changes to orientation dates.
