Digital Learning Opportunities for Educators

Hello, educators! On October 14, we hosted an engaging informational session packed with helpful updates and resources on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). Jasmine Tejeda from uAspire shared insights on the latest FAFSA changes, while THECB’s Giselle Martinez walked attendees through dependent student scenarios for the TASFA and offered practical tips to help educators better support students and families through the financial aid process.

FAFSA Updates:

The 2026–27 FAFSA is now available! This year’s application includes several updates designed to make the process simpler and faster. Applicants with a Social Security number can now complete real-time identity verification, allowing for instant transfer of IRS tax information. In addition, the new contributor invitation process makes it easier for parents to participate—only an email address is needed for the parent contributor to receive an invitation code. Parents will need a verified account to complete their portion of the FAFSA, and if the invitation is accepted via email, the code will be automatically prefilled for added convenience.

2026-27 TASFA:

The 202627 TASFA officially launched on October 1! This year’s application includes several updates from institutions of higher education’s feedback and aligns with changes to the 2026–27 FAFSA. Key improvements include the date of birth fields to reduce selection errors and the streamlined dependency section through the removal or combination of certain questions. Additionally, questions 65 and 72—which collect information on the highest level of education completed by Parent 1 and Parent 2—have been combined for greater clarity and efficiency. For any technical or general questions about completing the TASFA, call 1-888-311-8881 or submit a Contact Us inquiry.
